‘Lot of blood’: Woman falls from ride

A young woman is reported to have been hurled “ten to 15 feet” (3 to 4.5 metres) from the Airmaxx 360 tide, smashing into the teenager and a separate ride at the popular fair that attracts both locals and tourists alike.

Local police confirmed a woman had been rushed to hospital for treatment after falling from a ride at Hull Fair, in northern England.

‘SERIOUS INJURIES’

“It’s believed she fell from one ride onto the base of a nearby ride and injured herself. It also appears a teenager who was on the ground also received minor injuries,” a spokesperson for Humberside Police said in a statement.

“Both rides have been closed while officers and health and safety officials from Hull City Council work together to establish what happened.”

The other ride that was closed was the Sizzler.

Chief Inspector Paul Kirby, Tactical Commander for Hull Fair said the woman had “been seriously injured” and was taken to hospital by ambulance.

“We do not believe her injuries are life threatening or life changing,” he said.

“A teenage boy was struck by the woman as she fell. He thankfully only sustained minor injuries.

“We have very well established plans in place with the council for any incident like this at the fair, and I want to thank everyone for their patience while we deal with this.

“I am appealing for anyone who might have seen what happened, or who has any video footage of it to contact us.”

According to Yorkshire Ambulance Service, the woman has multiple injuries and is receiving treatment at Hull Royal Infirmary.

‘A LOT OF BLOOD’

The Hull Fair is run by a local City Council Events Team and also the Showmen’s Guild.

Gary Leach, chairman of showman’s guild told The Sun that police, ambulance, and health and safety are all investigating the incident, as “no one knows really what has happened”.

“We are getting all different stories,” he said.

Horrified witnesses said the Airmaxx 360 at Hull Fair had “just set off” when the woman plunged to the ground.

One witness said: “[The Airmaxx 360] has been shut and the emergency services are there.

“There is a lot of blood. It doesn’t look good,” said one witness.

Another witness said the woman “looked young” and fell up to 10-15 feet.

According to reports, the same ride also became stuck upside down for a “short time” at the weekend, leaving terrified revellers dangling in mid-air.

Another witness claims to have seen staff “hammering a bolt into a ride,” prompting her to contact Hull Fair inquiring about safety precautions.

Bethany Leigh who visited the fairground on Friday evening told Sun Online: “I actually posted to the Hull fair page asking if there’s any form of inspection on these rides.

“What I saw was extremely eye opening and I don’t think I’ll be going on a ride again at Hull Fair.

“It was a different ride, called Tagada.

“There needs to be more strict health safety procedures put into place and inspections taken place for each ride.”

Replying to Bethany, Hull Fair said: “[Rides] are tested daily and have independent inspectors before the fair starts.”
